Paper Fishes

In the restaurant “La Taberna del Chef del Mar” in El Puerto de Santa Maria, not far from Cádiz, beautiful, delicate paper fishes hang from the ceiling. Handicraft at its finest! We absolutely had to have them. We asked about them, but got no concrete answer, only “it must be a woman from Barcelona!”

The next day, I sent a follow-up email to this excellent restaurant to ask again more specifically. Yes, the answer: “It's an Argentine woman who has a stall at an artists' market on Calle so-and-so in Barcelona. I googled the street, found it, and also found a restaurant nearby. I googled the restaurant and called them. A nice waiter answered the phone. “You have that art market. I'm looking for a woman who makes animal imitations out of paper.” The waiter: “You'd better call Pizza Paco. They're closer!”

I Googled Pizza Paco, called them, and explained what I wanted again. The waiter, who was again extremely nice, took care of it and put me in touch with an Argentine lady named Paola Micheo.

So we ordered a selection of local fish made of paper, which arrived here in Cádiz about four weeks later and are now hanging from our kitchen ceiling.
